Turn 210,000 Points Into Paradise: Our Grand Hyatt Kauai Stay

Last year we stayed six nights at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa for 210,000 Hyatt points — total.

That breaks down to 35,000 points per night, which was before the category increase. Cash rates during our stay were hovering around $800 to $1,000+ per night.

This is why award travel makes me so happy. Was it worth it? More than you know. Christmas with my family in paradise was fantastic.

The grounds were absolutely stunning, and the pool system is pretty ridiculous. They even had a man-made lagoon you could sit by, plus direct beach access and perfect landscaping — everything you expect in Hawaii.

Were the rooms ultra-modern? Absolutely not. They’re a little dated, but they were clean and comfortable, and I definitely wasn’t flying to Kauai to sit in my room the whole time.

How could this get any better? Let me tell you. A very generous person gifted me a Hyatt Guest of Honor certificate, which gave us free breakfast every day as well as lounge access — and that makes a huge difference when you’re talking about food prices in Hawaii. It also gave us free valet, which was incredibly helpful.

Why else was this great? I didn’t have to pay resort fees because it was booked on points, which saved even more money every single day.

Hyatt is my favorite hotel program for redemptions.
